    Nothing new here.
238w from 60 cells = ~4w per cell, so not exactly revolutionary.
All they have done is put more cells into each panel. They haven’t increased the efficiency of the cells. Larger panels may require slightly less aluminium framing, but that is about the only saving from these large panels.

i thought it was weird that they had a huge panel standing up inside the building, while using electricity from the building to power their station

@SirReptitious very good . i was wrong and forgot the ol’ conversion. thank you (: … stupid weak solar. lol

  4. SirReptitious says:

@archaedemos 1000 Watts is 1 KILO Watt, not Megawatt. Most hairdryers are around 1000 watts! If we assume you can fit 10 on your house, that would be 2.4 KILOwatts. And as you noted, that is PEAK power, which you wont get often, since the panels wouldnt be able to track the sun. And then there is the matter of how many trees are around your house. To me, solar is not so much about totally making your own power, but reducing what we need from oil/coal.

  5. archaedemos says:

@SirReptitious about five would do eh? 1000W is 1MW , how many does my house need? i woulda thought 1 or 2 MW at peak… what you think?

  6. SirReptitious says:

@archaedemos Uh, you are going to want a lot more than one. One will power your TV, but you would have to cover your entire house to get any significant amount that would power something major, like an A/C.

  7. greenpogo says:

lol – so okay – they made the modules bigger therefore they have a slight wattage increase. idk, im not super impressed by this, but yah id still put one on my house :P

People don’t realize just how profound solar panel tech is, and it will be even more so in the future. Within the next few decades, as we approach 100% efficiency with solar panels, EVERYTHING will be powered by the sun. It will be an amazing moment for humanity, to finally ditch ALL fossil fuels forever.

But do we have enough energy from the sun? We have TEN THOUSAND times more than we need, globally. Buckle up folks, the future is sunny…

  9. archaedemos says:

i’d put one on my house
